The Concert In Paris And The New Album

“popXport” – Deutsche Welle’s music magazine met up with the Scorpions before and during their concert in Paris. We interviewed them about their new album “Comeblack”, the documentary film about them and their current farewell tour. Here’s the report.

Director’s Statement

“The Geman rock band Scorpions has enjoyed raging success across the globe for some 46 years. True icons of international rock’n’roll, they made it in the US market, a goal previously unattainable by any German rock band. They have a ‘pioneer spirit’, as they were among the first western bands to bring their music directly to Russia and the Middle East. And they´re from Germany.

I find the Scorpion’s success story highly inspiring and I’m interested in exploring the people behind this success and their attitudes towards life. What is behind Rolf Schenker’s ‘Live your dream’ philosophy and the premise of living that philosophy together with Klaus Meine– the Scorpion’s voice and front man–, virtuoso Matthias Jabs, drummer James Kottak and bass player Pawel Maciwoda?”

Music Video Complements “Comeblack” Album

“Comeblack” is more than just album number 18 for the Scorpions. Several of the tracks are a Scorpions-style homage to artists that influenced them. Five of these cover versions were spun into a medley and an elaborate music video. It begins with “Tainted Love” (the Gloria Jones original), followed by “Children of the Revolution” and T. Rex. The Beatles back that up with “Across the Universe” as do the Rolling Stones with “Ruby Tuesday.” Wrapping it up is the Kinks classic “All Day and All of the Night.” The clip was directed by Oliver Sommer, who’s already made a name for himself with Helloween, Krokus, Edguy and the Guano Apes.
