Welcome to the Open Media Summit 2012!

We want Internet!

Are you interested in up-to-date ideas for citizen journalists and digital media activists from the Maghreb, North Africa and beyond?

Then the Open Media Summit, an open online course, is right for you.

From 05 of November until 10 of December 2012, four main topics will be discussed within the new online learning format of a so-called Massive Open Online Course (MOOC):

  • Going local: Creating regional online platforms
  • Know your sources: Dealing responsibly with the Web’s wealth of information
  • Data driven journalism: Discover new ways to gather and present information
  • Staying online: Coping with censorship and online interference

For more information check out the Schedule and our FAQs.

The course, which is open to everybody and free of charge, will be held in Arabic with additional information in English.

Interested? Please join our Facebook group or  SIGN UP! Each topic will be discussed online for one week through background material, live video conferences with experts, discussion groups, and on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. These numerous options give you the opportunity to decide for yourself how you prefer to learn. Citizen journalists, bloggers and media activists from the Maghreb are invited to share current information and unique points of view on the situation in the region, in order to facilitate learning more about Web trends and innovations, and to link up with each other.

The course is open to all and free of charge. It will be held in both Arabic and English. You can join in any time you want – if you miss the beginning, you can follow up on past courses over the website.
